Overloud Jensen Vintage Alnico P12R - SuperCabinet IR Library
This is a systematic capture of a Jensen P12R AlNiCo speaker from the Vintage series installed in two different cabinets:
● a 1x12" Open Back cabinet
● a 2x12" Open Back cabinet
This library includes both original and remastered versions for a total of 1152 IRs. Developed in conjunction with a Jensen Speakers product specialist, this library recreates the most authentic playing experience as if you were playing an original speaker.
The smallest powered AlNiCo 12” in the range, the P12R is the classic choice for the lower powered combo amps of the tweed era. It was very common in many different Fender®, Epiphone® and Ampeg® amps until the early ‘60s. The P12R is bright and colorful, has a warm, almost loose bass range, excellent cut and sparkle in the top end, and breaks up easily. Designed for lightweight, floating baffle style enclosures, the P12R has the iconic sound of the late ‘50s.
ALSO INCLUDES THE REMASTERED VERSION
This library also includes the remastered version of all the IRs. The vintage Jensen speakers were designed mainly for clean tones. The maximum overdrive achievable back in those days was generated by the amplifier’s natural clipping and compression, and maybe by some of the earlier fuzz pedals. Those speakers were voiced for sparkly, shimmering treble response, with a remarkable amount of energy well over 6kHz, to be coupled with the warm sounding circuits and the thin, resonant cabinets of the era.
The IRs of the Vintage Jensen Speakers behave exactly as expected—bright, clear and detailed.
In the modern world, especially with high gain tones that have naturally very rich harmonic overtones, all this energy in the treble range may sometimes produce an overly bright and aggressive tone.
To further expand the possible applications of these historical speakers, we decided to offer all the Vintage Jensen IRs also in a “Remastered” option, where we finely tuned the top end response to be warmer and less prominent, making it suitable also in more contemporary and higher-gain applications—a sort of virtual “aged tone”, that offers a whole new range of sounds for every application. All of the IRs in the library are effectively doubled by the “Remastered” version, which opens up new possibilities to the player. Once again, going “beyond the original hardware”.
The microphones used during the capturing session are:
